ANSWERS :
Store Rainbow water pan and unit separately !!!
Even if you dry the water pan with the paper towel if you put the Rainbow vacuum on the pan for storage it will retain the moisture in air passages and the fan system that is there after vacuuming and that moisture will corrode bearings. Within 2-4 years you will have to get it serviced.
Which is THE BEST vacuum in the world?
KEY thing in cleaning is not "what kind of vacuum cleaner do you have". The most important is to take the vacuum and actually VACUUM!!! Once you let the dirt go to the bottom of the carpet - it is there forever unless you are a bit "nuts" and don't mind going with Rainbow over the same spot 100-200 times. So even a $300 HOOVER would do it. However the Hoover it is more likely to break down much sooner, (it HAS to or SEARS would not make their money if you had same vacuum cleaner for the rest of your life), it would not be as versatile as the Rainbow vacuum it would loose suction soon and Rainbows are well known for their GREAT filtration. So whatever you picked up from the rug - never goes back into the air..
What do you think of Rainbow vacuum?
  • Good suction !
  • Water filter means NO BAGS and NO full bag of dirt DIRT in your closed like with "bag type" vacuums, no suction loss.
  • I had people saying that it helped with their allergies but I do NOT guarantee it will help in YOUR case.
  • E-Series has a HEPA filter cartridge to make sure that NOTHING will escape the Rainbow. .

Your prices are good but I found even better deals on Ebay...
Ebay is a HUGE "Flea Market". You see some good people there and there are some crooks or people that are just "dumping" what they do not need. Sellers that have a good reputation sell their vacuums not for much less than we do but from what I have seen - cheaper units have generic attachments or attachments from different models, have more used parts in the system. CHEAP vacuums - is a gamble. A lot of them are trade-ins being sold by a different vacuum brand sales people or a pawn shops that have no access to spare parts nor they know what parts have to be there and if the unit is functioning properly. All they want is "whatever" they can get for it even if it is $50.00. But this is only 1 chance in 10 that you will get an EXCELLENT unit that you will not have to take for service right away. Where do you get these vacuums?
We have about 40 distributors that do not want to sell their trade-ins to a local vac shop creating competition for themselves and they have accumulated way to many used vacuums. To move so many of them it is a FULL TIME JOB like ours and they are in a business of selling new ones. So these are ususally our sourcess that we buy our used units from. ( back to TOP )
If Rainbows are so durable why do you give only 1 year warranty?
Some shops offer 5 years but that is usually on MOTOR ONLY and that is almost impossible to kill. Or maybe they are good at accusing customers of improper use and charging them for repair anyway. I have been in this business for a while and I have seen new machines that are ruined within few years. I hope you are not like that but I will not give CRAZY warranties just to avoid annoying conversations with customers that do not treat things with care. Anyway - if anything is to go wrong it is likely to happen within first few months. ( back to TOP )
My Rainbow vacuum does not SUCK as much as it used to. Why?
I see a few possible reasons:
1. Something is stuck in the air passage - check the wands and the nozzle. Drop a pebble in the hose and see if it will come out the other end.
2. Brush roll is worn (bristles must stick out of the nozzle about 1/8 of the inch).
3. Someone has vacuumed something that was not supposed to be vacuumed and the "stuff" got stuck on the fan blades.
4. SE model ONLY - Sponge in the exhaust cover is dirty and does not let the air out (throw it away).
5. E-Series ONLY - HEPA filter cartridge is dirty. Remove and see if it sucks better without the filter. If yes - install new filter. Washable filters - I just do not believe in washing microscopic particles out of the pores of the filter. I would still replace it.
6. Suction is good but brush roll does not spin (check belt and see if it is not broken or stretched too much).
7. Copper collector plates of the motor may need cleaning.
8. You are just tired of your vacuum and you feel like buying something else and you looking for a reason to get rid of the one that you have.

I had my Rainbow vacuum for a while now - does it need any maintenance?
If everything seems fine - keep on using it and do not worry about any maintenance. If you feel excessive vibration or it works a bit noisy - have it checked. Ohhh - do not forget to keep separator (basket-like thing on the bottom of the vacuum) CLEAN.
When to change belt?
Sometimes even though the belt is in tact you may need to change it. If you feel that sometime brush stops spinning even though nozzle motor is running fine and/or you smell burning rubber - replace the belt. ( back to TOP )
My Rainbow vacuum stinks, what do I do?
It may be your carpet that has the smell absorbed in it - then you got to get a new carpet. Rainbow may also stink if some of the fine dust settled within the unit (inside). We take Rainbows apart and wash all parts when rebuilding them so we never had your type of problem to solve with Rainbows but we had worked on some Dyson vacuums and other vacuums that were impossible to take apart for cleaning. So if you are not having your Rainbow rebuilt and want to give it a shot and try to solve smelly problem on your own try this - buy "Kills Cigarette Smell" (or something in that nature) spray at a local automotive store. Buy the one that KILLS SMELLS not another scent just to go "on the top of the stench" creating new even worse smells. MAKE SURE the spray is NOT flammable or you will send your Rainbow flying.. Set your Rainbow vacuum on empty water pan, turn it on, spray plenty into the neck of the pan and immediately turn the unit off. Let it sit there for 10-15 minutes, then turn on the Rainbow vacuum and let it run for 10-15 minutes so it will dry. This is just my best guess that it may work as it worked for me before. Also there is this Rainbow Deodorizer that you put in water when vacuuming. I have never tried that (as I needed it to be SPRAY) but you may. You will use it later anyway. Ohh - if this is Rainbow e-series with HEPA filter that you have - change the filter (NOT WASH but CHANGE). That alone may solve the problem ( back to TOP )
