Kirby vacuum tips
For other people in Kirby business - PLEASE do not COPY-PASTE into your pages. I took my time to type this up - LINK to me instead - I would do the same for you.
   Kirby vacuum is one of the best and the most expensive and VERSATILE vacuums on the market today. Since you are considering or already have a Kirby vacuum and you are one of those people that just HATE reading manuals, I have some bad news YOU HAVE TO READ IT or watch it on DVD.
    From my experience I would say that properly taking care of your Kirby vacuum and vacuuming an average-sized house about 2 times per week – your Kirby vacuum may last you about 20 years before you will have to service it. Kirby vacuum is a very durable, hard to break (but possible so do not try to break it on purpose) machine. As you read the manual I would like to recommend you to pay more attention to following sections:
 
  • Kirby vacuum belt replacement
    You MUST know how to properly engage brush roll and make sure you put Kirby brush roll back into the nozzle casting properly. Have in mind that there are several positions for the brush roll. Make sure the indicator light on the nozzle is ON when vacuuming. It tells that the brush roll is spinning.
  • Kirby vacuum outer bag installation (Models G3; G4; G5; Gsix; Ultimate G and Diamond edition)
    Over 90% of Kirby vacuum owners who call to complain that Kirby does not work have bag assembly installed improperly. There is a switch that shuts off the motor if you take the bag off. So if you do not put it right (pressing all the way towards the unit)- motor simply does not turn on.
  • Kirby Tech-Drive (Models G3; G4; G5; Gsix; Ultimate G and Diamond edition)
    Kirby is like a car with manual transmission. If you leave it in gear and shut it if - wheels would not spin so it is HARD to push and pull Kirby vacuum when it is OFF. Put Kirby Tech-Drive into N position and lift the Kirby nozzle all the way up when pushing it over your floors (nozzle has a metal frame so it may scratch the floor)
  • Kirby vacuum nozzle adjustment
    For the best results the height of the nozzle must be adjusted properly. Lift the nozzle all the way up. Turn on the Kirby vacuum. Start lowering it. Once you head kirby changing sound (nozzle touches the carpet), lower it one more click and leave it like this.
  • Kirby all of the sudden became VERY NOISY
    Most likely the fan blade is broken. It is a piece of plastic that your local vacuum shop should not charge more than 50-60 dollars to replace. DO NOT operate Kirby with damaged fan blade. Excessive vibration may result in overheating of the motor and then you are looking at 150-300 dollar job.
  • Kirby vacuum STINKS
    If it stinks even after you have replaced disposable bag with a new one - then the outer bag has absorbed the smell. Take the plastic bag top off, take the bag off the plastic shoe-like base (you may have to buy a bag strap or use big cable tie to install it back). Put the bag in washer for LIGHT cycle. Do NOT dry it in a dryer (plastic bag clip or vinyl sleeve on the bottom may melt)! Let it dry by itself (hang it outside).
  • Kirby is so heavy...

  • Kirby shampoo system
    It will take you a while to get a grip how to shampoo. But once you do - you will enjoy it VERY MUCH. It does all scrubbing and rubbing for you. If it takes longer than 5 hours for carpet to dry after you shampoo - you are doing something wrong. If shampooer does not make any foam - you are using wrong shampoo or a little screen from the solution tank fell into the hose connecting it with the tray.
  • So where do I get the Kirby manual?
    Just thought that you would ask . We do not have any in stock today but starting from the July 2006 we will have DVD and printed manuals for sale at about $19.00 (mailed).
