Removing HEPA filter cover:

Newer style filter cover - In the picture you see newer style filter cover that is held in place with 2 tabs. Release them with flat screwdriver and the cover will pop off

Older style filter cover - older style cover is attached to the main housing wit 4 phillips screws. 2 of them are clearly visible near the bottom of the unit and 2 more are concealed under cord caddy. Use flat crewdriver to remove cord caddy and under it you will fing 2 more screws.

Use smaller flat screwdriver to release tabs of the Rainbow clear side panels (top of the panel)

When clear side panels removed 4 or 6 screws total will be accessible. These screws hold unit cap to the main Rainbow e series housing

Under the cap you will see motor air cooling filter.

Pull the plug off the On/Off switch

Remove strain relief from the cord.

Use small screwdriver or pin to push on the wire terminal metal lip to release wire from the plug.

Skip this step if you are not going to wash the cap or remove the cord. Ocassionally the terminal lip gets broken and to ensure proper contact with the switch you may have to purchase a new cord or if you are really savy in such work - replace the wire terminal

This is the lip that holds the terminal in the harness plug.

If you need to remove the switch you will need to push on 4 tabs from the inside of the cap (blue arrows), while pulling on the switch (red arrow) (or pushing the switch from inside).

Use flat screwdriver to pull the harness of the power nozzle cord receptacle

Disconnect two wires from safety switch

4 more phillips screws that hold motor retainer ring.

2 phillips screws on the bottom of the unit are holding each baffle with latch. Note that one baffle has the safety switch and tiny actuator plug that is very easy to loose. Note how the plug is installed.

Only when baffles are removed you will gain access to latch pins. You will need to push on smaller diameted end to get the pin out so you can remove the latch.

Skip this step if you do not need to replace the latch

Front bottom of the unit - 2 screws that hold the faceplate to the unit

2 more screws on the top.

You may have tu cut through the glue that is between the gasket and the intake (part of the faceplace). I would not remove the faceplate unless you need to install new one. There is no or very little dust under it so it is not worth the trouble.

You will need 1/8 hex key to hold the armature and 1/2 wrench for the nut.

When nut removed - spider will come off (on older motors there is washer between spider and fan (spider of older motors with washer is made out of white plastic) .

Remove 4 clips holding lover fan case housing .

Lower housing will come off exposing the only fan blade .

Under the fan there is a spacer and plate attached to the upper fan case housing with 4 screws. Older style (AME) motors had this plate glued to the upper housing. There is no need to remove it unless you really want to clean under it. Usually is is not worth it.

To acces motor brushes you will need to remove motor cap.

This is new style (GSE) motor brush attached to the bearing bridge with one screw. Older (AME)style motor brushes with brass housing had a clip with 2 screws.

Would not recommend disassembly beyond this point. Any parts that could further be removed are not available from Rainbow e series manufacturer to purchase. To take bearing bridge off you will need to remove the motor cooling fan. it is possible to remove it so it can be reused but ocasionally it breaks and manufacturer does not sell them separatelly.
