Description   Kirby Air Flow Indicator For Vacuum Cleaner Demo Designed to show comparison of air flow on a scale of 1-10 Q & A: Question: Can you please let me know if the Airflow indicator, can be used to test suction in a low suction situation. I will am planning on having approximately 30 suction points along a 10ft pipe 1” pipe. I want to compare the suction at each suction point to see if they vary depending on their location along the pipe. The suction through the 30 suction points will approximate the suction created by 1 vacume cleaner. Can I put a fitting on the AirFlow indicator to connect to a 1” pipe. As it measure out of 10, is it likely that the low suction situation won’t differentiate the difference in suction from each location and perhaps just give me a reading of say 1. I am asking how sensitive is the Airflow indicator to differences in pressure. ? Answer: This is really more of the sales than scientific tool. It is made to compare Kirby vacuums with other vacuums. So unless you intend to do that this will not be a useful tool. It is more to compare airflow of one vacuum with another. To measure the airflow and get more scientific data you would need to purchase anemometer. They come in all kinds of designs and price ranges. When purchasing one pay attention to the speeds of wind they are designed for. If you have smaller diameter tube (such as vacuum cleaner tube) speeds may way out of range for anemometers that designed to measure speeds of wind outside or inside of the house.
