Notes:
This is a NEW style gasket that replaced the now discontinued old style motor gasket shown below:

This new style gasket instead of being glued to the housing on the outer perimeter has a lip that goes through the housing and acts as water pan gasket at the same time (red arrow):

Blue arrow - you will need the water pan neck gasket that can be found HERE.

You will need some weatherstripping glue to glue this gasket to the motor.

If you have old style "water pan/water pan neck" combo gasket:

You will heave to remove it. Use a knife and do as good job as you can. Unfortunately it will not look absolutely perfect as this old style gasket was very well glued so no mater how hard you will try it will still be visible that something was removed but it will not lead to loss of performance of your Rainbow vacuum in any way. If you want you can leave the water pan neck portion of the gasket (blue arrow) but trim it nicely so it will not go under new motor gasket lip. Another solution would be to cut the lip of the new gasket so it would not stick out and lay over this old gasket.
We had some good questions from customers that you may be wondering about yourself:

QUESTION:

On the pictures you will see that the gasket has some small defects on the surface around the edge as well as inside. Are these "normal" defects that won't affect anything or they are something I should be concerned about (especially if they cause leaking)?
ANSWER:
Rexair (Rainbow vacuum manufacturer) definitely don't make them look nice. They used to be much better looking but I guess Rexair may switched gasket manufacturer or changed the manufacturing process a while ago and we started getting them just like this. It will work good and will not leak though.

QUESTION:
The entire gasket is covered with a white substance. Is it because the gasket is new and came from the manufacturer this way? Does it need to be wiped off before installation?
ANSWER:
These gaskets come in bags stacked on the top of each other so this white powder keeps them from sticking together. It will not prevent glue from sticking to the gasket though. Also it will make it easier to slide the gasket lip through the opening in the housing.

QUESTION:
Do you recommend gluing the gasket in place? The original gasket (new style) in my Rainbow was not glued.
ANSWER:
You have to glue the gasket to the motor only. Let it cure for 24 hours before installing the motor. It may be installed into the housing right away but make sure you leave the vacuum sitting vertically for the glue to cure. NO gluing to the housing. Just put the lip of the gasket through the opening in the housing and it will hold the motor in place. Once water container is attached the lip will be pressed between water container and housing of the vacuum and it is not going to go anywhere.

It looks used because it's kind of rough and not all one even color. I know it's new, but it's not nice and smooth like the smaller rectangular gasket piece. It was easy to take off the old gasket. I glued this new one on with the recommended glue sold here, and it was easy enough. I have never repaired or replaced parts to any vacuum unless you count bags and filters. My used Rainbow is new again after some parts that I got here.
