Last Updated: 01/08/2010
My Kirby is only few years old. It still works perfect but it is not as shiny as the day I bought it. What do you guys do to make them look so good?

To remove the grayish aluminum oxide to bring back the original luster you will need:
  1. Chrome polishing paste available at your local automotive store or HERE
  2. 000 or 0000 grade steel wool – you can find it at your local hardware store.
  3. Pair of gloves
  4. Paper towel

Directions:
Simply dip a piece of steel wool into polishing paste and rub the metal Kirby parts with it. Wipe off the black residue with a paper towel. Wear gloves as it will not be easy to wash your hands if this black residue gets on the skin. Also avoid rubbing plastic and vinyl parts especially if your Kirby vacuum has lighter plastic trimming color (such as G3, Ultimate G or Sentria). This will effectively remove the oxide and make your Kirby sweeper shiny but it will not remove scratches at all.

To get all scratches out and make it like a mirror you would need 1.5 HP buffing motor with buffing wheel and buffing compound.
